MEET MISS ROSE...

Miss Rose has been dancing for 35 years and teaching/choreographing 21 of those years.  She is a 1987 graduate of Sissonville High School and a 2004 Cum Laude graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University with a BA in Organizational Leadership and Development.  In January 2008 she began the Masters Program with Wheeling Jesuit for a Master of Science in Leadership.  In her spare time she works for the West Virginia Division of Culture and History/Arts Section as the Cultural Facilities and Accessibility Coordinator.  She also serves on LSIC (Local School Improvement Committee) and is the color guard instructor/assistant band director for St. Albans High School.

Rose began dancing at the age of 5 with Jean Smithers in Belle, WV.  Throughout her career she studied under various instructors both locally and nationally such as Mr. Deturio, Deanna Edens, Donna Dan, Connie Percozzi, Gus Giordano, Lynda Gauche, Jerry Rose, Tommy Walsh and many others.  Rose opened her own studio in 1999 after Deanna's School of Dance closed its doors.  Each year the studio has grown artistically.  There are now 4 levels of competition teams and classes for ages 3 through adult.  Rose believes you never have to stop dancing and her first dance job was teaching a group of retired ladies tap.  It is from this job that her inspiration began.  Nancy Ruddle, a student of that class was a classically trained ballerina in the 1930's and saw something in Rose that told her she would some day own her own studio and share her love of dance with many others.  12 years later, that became a reality.  Rose now instructs the competition team along with other classes in ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical.  She also works on a contract basis for color guard judging events and workshops/seminars.

Rose truly believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn about dance.  It brings to the eye what music stirs in our souls.

Other credits for Rose include:
17 years as the color guard instructor at St. Albans High School
15 years as dance team instructor also at St. Albans High School

MEET MISS KATE.....

Kate is a native to Charleston and has taken dance for the past twenty-seven years. Currently Kate is a full-time instructor at Marshall University teaching English Composition with hopes of acceptance to Phd program this fall.

Kate began dancing under the instruction of Pierce McClain and January Johnson focusing on ballet and tap. During most of her elementary school days Kate took from January Johnson and also became involved in productions with The Appalachian Youth Jazz-Ballet Company which was run by Nina Denton. After having taken from Johnson for some time, Kate joined Denton’s company and participated in numerous productions; Babes in Toyland, The Wizard of Oz, and Beauty and the Beast to name a few, all of which were full scale productions which combined elements of dance and acting. With Denton, Kate focused her classical ballet training while also involving herself in dance team and flag corps. at South Charleston Junior High. During the year of 1993 Nina Denton retired her company and Kate began taking tap classes from her then flag instructor Rose McDonough. While under the name, Deanna’s School of Dance, Kate took ballet, tap and jazz classes and participated on competition teams with both groups and duets. From 1993 to 1998 Kate was an active dancer, mostly under the instruction of Rose McDonough, competing in tap, jazz and lyrical dance. During those years, Kate also assisted with classes and taught her own classes during and after her senior year of High School.

While at WVU for undergraduate school Kate kept up her dancing taking various classes from the dance department under the direction of Kacey Wiedebusch. Here she developed an interest in modern dance and continued to hone her skills in classical ballet. Kate also expanded her dance knowledge by joining the African Drum and Dance Ensemble where she learned various forms of African dance and performed with the ensemble throughout Morgantown and surrounding areas.

Over the years, Kate has also worked with The Charleston Light Opera Guild, performing in A Chorus Line and Grease. She has also participated as well as choreographed some shows for The Kanawha Players.

More recently, Kate instructed teens and adults at Yvonne DeKay’s School of Dance in Ironton, KY. There Kate was also exposed to various forms of modern and contemporary dance and participated in workshops with Dance Master’s of America. With DMA Kate has taken classes and teacher workshops with instructors such as, Greg Russell, Debbi D, and Isis Musoud.

Learning from these various teachers over the years has given Kate her own style and direction with dance. For the 2009-2010 dance year Kate will be instructing hip-hop, lyrical and jazz classes. Having been absent from RM Productions for some time she is very enthusiastic to be back and looks forward to a great dance year!
